MSPAlliance Offers SAS 70 Audits
Statement on Auditing Standards (SAS) 70 Type I and II audits will be offered by a third-party certified public accounting firm.
In a further effort to offer its membership business certifications of distinction, the MSPAlliance announced that it will be offering SAS 70 audits for its members. The SAS 70 audit will be made available along with the Managed Services Accreditation Program (MSAP) exam. Details of the program will be formally announced at MSPWorld in Orlando on April 30, 2009.
“A SAS 70 audit is widely recognized, because it represents that a service organization has been through an in-depth audit of their control objectives and control activities, which often include controls over information technology and related processes,”?according to www.sas70.com, the Web resource dedicated to the auditing standard and third-party assurance for service organizations. “In today’s global economy, service organizations or service providers must demonstrate that they have adequate controls and safeguards when they host or process data belonging to their customers.? In addition, the requirements of Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 make SAS 70 audit reports even more important to the process of reporting on the effectiveness of internal control over financial reporting.”
“The Managed Services Accreditation Program exam just got stronger,” says Charles Weaver, president of MSPAlliance, based in Chico, Calif. “SAS 70 is a very well respected standard amongst the accounting profession. By combining SAS 70 with the MSAP exam we can offer our members a very reputable certification process that will result in increased security and satisfaction for the end-user.”
Companies who are interested in taking the Managed Services Accreditation Program exam will be able to take the SAS 70 Type I and Type II audits. The SAS 70 audits will be performed by a third party CPA firm.
“As an accredited MSP, the ability to add SAS 70 to our resume brings additional prestige to our managed services practice,” says Dan Holt, CEO of HEIT. “The combination of the MSAP and SAS 70 will bring an enhanced stature to the managed services profession.”
