Ecobee Launches Home Automation API

Ecobee Launches Home Automation API

The smart thermostat is just one piece of the Electronic House puzzle – but lately, it’s a really popular one. Thermostat maker ecobee Inc. is hoping to use some of that popularity to launch a slew of connected home solutions. To make that happen, the company just launched its new public Application Programming Interface (API).

That API platform allows developers to integrate applications with ecobee’s smart thermostats. Right now, ecobee says that Mi Casa Verde, Smart Things, The UBI, Earth Networks, Integral Analytics, AutoGrid, Energy Sherlock and MMB Research Solutions are just a few of the partners developing apps for the ecobee platform.

“SmartThings is focused on making the world smarter through our open platform and we are passionate about working with open APIs, like those launched today for ecobee’s smart thermostat, to further prove the role developers and inventors play in the Internet of Things,” said Alex Hawkinson, founder and CEO of SmartThings. “This integration allows consumers to effortlessly control their ecobee thermostats through the SmartThings platform.”

If you’ve got a great idea, ecobee’s API is open now to all developers.

“Ecobee’s API platform enables an active community of forward thinkers to build the next generation of connected home applications,” said Stuart Lombard, president and CEO of ecobee. “Our customers will benefit from a wide range of convenient solutions that will simplify their lives.”
