Citrix has acquired Kaviza, a virtual desktop infrastructure company. The makers of an all-in-one “VDI-in-a-Box” for SMBs, Kaviza will add a VDI-only product to the Citrix portfolio, allowing the virtualization giant to expand into the SMB market. The Kaviza “VDI-in-a-Box” product will complement the Citrix XenDesktop product, bringing a new level of enterprise-class desktop virtualization.
Desktop virtualization is becoming increasingly popular among SMBs. According to Gartner, hosted virtual desktops have become the number two driver of new server purchases in SMBs across North America. However, the cost of deploying VDI has traditionally been expensive. Kaviza touts its “VDI-in-a-Box” product as a product designed from the ground up with a low-cost deployment.
Features include:
- No separate connection brokers, load balancers, provisioning servers, or expensive shared network storage
- Installs quickly with easy management – installs in less than two hours and an administrator interface makes management simple
- Citrix HDX technology delivers a high-definition user experience while minimizing bandwidth requirements
- Grid architecture delivers a simple infrastructure with fewer servers than traditional VDI solutions
- Open architecture allows flexibility and choice, providing multi-hypervisor support for Citrix XenServer and VMware ESX. Microsoft Hyper-V support is coming soon.
